How does Yakuza 0 stack up with the original?

I have the remaster preordered and I'm wondering which game I should play first. I know 0 is a prequel so it would come first chronologically, but if Kiwami feels dated I might want to play it first so it isn't disappointing after 0. Any thoughts from anyone who's played both?
