I think my family killed my ps4 controller

So recently my family decided to bring my ps4 to the livingroom, they have a very bad habit of not charging the controller. They use it to watch Netflix and they constantly turned it on after it died multiple times, and now it won't hold a charge and dies immediately after I unplug it. Can I just replace the battery or do I have to buy a new controller
