Recently bought PaRappa from big in Japan sale in EU, couldn't pass stage 4, apparently there is a weird button delay issue. I was able to pass it on first try after connecting my controller via USB (don't forget to change connection method in the settings as well). Funny how this feature was added for online competitive games yet it was most useful for me to clear a PS1 game's stage.
