Controller started acting really odd out of nowhere yesterday

I have had this controller for 3 years now and yesterday while destiny 2 my character start turning and running to the left while not responding to any button presses I was doing but went away after I turned the controller off and back on. today as I was doing a public event it started happening again but locked me out of using my r1 button.

any ideas on how to fix?
