Welcome back, everybody! It's that time of year again - time to gather around a monitor, a tablet, a TV, or whatever device you prefer to watch this spectacle on, and dive deep into the world of competitive fighting games for an entire weekend.
What is EVO?
EVO (or Evolution Championship Series) is the single biggest Fighting Game tournament in the entire world, annually welcoming thousands of players, both old and new, newbie and veteran, casuals and professionals, under one roof, to decide who is the ultimate champion and the best competitor in each respective scene represented at this event. Last year, EVO has celebrated its 20th anniversary since the original event called "Battle by the Bay".
However, this year is no less special, at EVO will be celebrating yet another anniversary - the 15th anniversary of establishing EVO as a brand and as the tournament we know it as today.
While the tournament itself has retained its format from 2016, it did go through a couple of important changes. Namely - for the 2017 lineup, Pokken Tournament, Mortal Kombat X, and Killer Instinct are no longer a part of the official EVO games, with BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Injustice II, and The King of Fighters XIV replacing those three. The second important change is compared to last year, where only the Finals day was held inside the Mandalay Bay convention center in Las Vegas - this year all 3 days of the event will be held inside the complex, providing the attendees with the big stage for watching the Finals for their favourite or preferred games for the entire weekend.
Anyways, let's not hang around with the introduction for too long and proceed for the most important stuff - the games themselves
