So I finally wanted to dive back into the PS days, last PS I had was the 2.
Unfortunately I didn't listen to my gut feeling because I was antsy to buy a PS4 Pro and play right away, so craigslisted the first available dude that was selling it.
Red flags were going off in my head but I didn't listen, but that's just me being a dumbass, so what's to discuss.
Not only does it not come with a warranty, but I discovered an integral problem with the PS4 upon returning home, excited.
Not only does it not come with a warranty, the box it was in has a different serial number altogether, lol.
NOT ONLY THAT, the goddamn LAN does not work. The port looks fine, but it just doesn't compute. I go to network > Wired > Easy > it never detects an ethernet cable, ever. I even tried connecting directly to the modem to no avail.
Not only that, but it fucked up my entire router and subsequently my modem when I tried plugging in the ethernet cable, and 3 other ones, to the point where I had to hard reset my entire shit.
What's even weirder is that when I get close to the ethernet port at the back it makes a buzzing electrical sound. Now, that may be because it's sitting on top of my home theater system or whatever, but I searched reddit and it eerily reminded me of this post:
What's EVEN FUCKING WEIRDER is the fact that the power cord provided isn't even from the fucking PS4. I should have noticed, but I was caught up in the moment.
It's a three pronged fork/socket power supply, and funnily enough it inserts into the PS4 and boots and everything works, but it is fucking THREE PRONGED, and "kinda" goes in fully, no shutdowns or anything yet, but it's really shady.
The thing is though, the top comment says that the mainboard needs to be replaced as that's where the ethernet goodies are, however it also says that the surge probably took out other parts of the PS4 if it were to happen.
I've tested everything from bluetooth, to wifi, to resting mode downloading, and playing games is quiet and smooth.
It's just the goddamn ethernet port that doesn't work. Which is unacceptable, and was not mentioned in the ad.
Plus some nice extras were thrown in so I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Please help answer these questions:
1) The power cord with 3 forks instead of two, the wrong one for the PS4 yet powers it fine and allows me to play for hours on end without a hitch, is it dangerous for the integrity of the PS4?
2) Following up on 1, could that be the reason the LAN isn't working?
3) Since I know where the buyer lives, and his phone number, and he has offered to "ring me up" a receipt tomorrow, how do I proceed? Demanding my money back would probably get me nowhere as people are hesitant to give cash back, unless I were to show up with a posse of goons, which I do not have on standby.
4) Can I pursue legal action?
5) What would you do?
