Corrupter Data (Help?)

I was playing Grand Theft Auto V when all of a sudden, the game exits and the console alerts me that the game is corrupted and must be reinstalled. It also ejected the disc by itself.

I have a couple of questions:

• Will this affect my other games?

• Will it harm my drive(s)?

• Is it a common issue?

• Do I have to rebuild the database (if I do have to, will it delete my data?)?

• Does this have to do with the fact that I have it installed on an External Drive?
