External Hard Drive not recognized at all by my console?

So a while back we got external hard drive support which was great as my 500 gb of storage really doesn't hold everything i need it to. I used my Seagate hard drive to hold my Battlefield 1 and a few other games. However i was concerned about unplugging the hard drive after, I wasn't sure if it had to be permanently connected which seems silly but I still looked it up and saw how to disconnect it properly and everything.

So a couple months later (today) I try plugging it back into my console. I wait a second and get a pop up that says it can't read the hard drive so i should try to "disconnect then reconnect". Did that about 10 times to no avail. Fed up, I go to reformat it on my computer and just deal with having to redownload all the games. I erase it and format it to ExFat (which i saw is one that the ps4 can recognize) and i make sure there are no partitions. I come back to my console, plug in the hard drive and... absolutely nothing happens. No pop-ups, nothing. The hard drive is running but not communicating with the console at all. So i reformat it a bunch of different ways and literally none of them work. Every time i plug it into my ps4 now absolutely nothing happens.

My question is... what the hell? What can I do to make the ps4 recognize my hard drive again? Just to the point where the console asks to format it? I'm really at a loss.

Thanks for any help! And if you need any other information to help, just ask and i'll be glad to provide it if i can.

UPDATE: Just realized I was stupidly using the wrong cord, but problem solved now. Thanks!
