I have an external hard drive and while using it I noticed many problems that would appear from time to time. USB headset would cut out, controllers would sometimes lag and even my internet would come to halt. After hours of testing different combinations, I came to the conclusion that the problem was the hard drive being on top of the ps4. After moving the hard drive as far away from the ps4 as possible I noticed all the problems I had experienced had stopped, I don't know if it's just a badly made hard drive but I believe it was something to do with the electromagnetic fields. From what I've researched these types of problems don't happen to everyone but if you get problems similar to mine and you have a hard drive plugged in, just unplug it and see if the problem continues.
