Network Upgrade from Comcast Router/Modem Question

I currently have Comcast internet and their standard router/modem. I got the 300 MB/s speed and in my apartment and couldn't connect the router/modem to the PS4 via Ethernet so invested in a Powerline adapter and have been happy so far. I still get issues with getting half of the 300 speed on the PS4 most times so decided it was time to upgrade a little (also to get rid of the Comcast monthly rental fee).

I am going to return their equipment and get my own and so far I am looking at:

  • NETGEAR CM700 (32x8) DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

  • NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (R7000)

Both of these had solid reviews and the router was highly recommended and the modem was recommended to be bundled with it. Is the router and modem I am looking at a good set up? Should i get rid of the Powerline Adapter in favor of a Network Switch which also came recommended with the Nighthawk? I have never worried about internet connection too much but after deciding to try and get rid of the Comcast rental fee I want to make sure I am getting a good set up. Any suggestions to other brands or your set up are welcomed as well so I can see what everyone has currently.
