Problem using a 3.5" drive with databank on ps4

So I just bought the databank and have the original 500 gb along with a 3TB hard drive. The original boots up fine and I have a 4gig flash drive with the 4.72 update on it with the correct filename. When I switch to the larger drive and have the usb in, it says the update file could not be used, tells me to use 4.71 or later, and error code CE-34788-0 displays. I have tried the fresh install option to reinitialize and it gives the same outcome

EDIT: To all those asking why im using a databank, its because theres too much space used up on an external and the external is costlier than a bare bones drive
