Question about Dying Light The Following vs Regular Dying Light

I own Dying Light The Following, but want to play the game co-op with a friend. Since I have the DLCs for owning this copy, can I lend this one to my friend and pick up a cheap used copy of the base game and play all the content, or do we both need a copy of The Following edition?
