A love letter to Absolver

In such a crowded market, I appreciate and admire games with a singular, specific vision. It takes balls for a developer to stick with a particular aesthetic or feature and try to develop an experience around that.

I am pleased to add Absolver to this list of niche titles, right alongside Thumper and Strafe.

It is a game about fighting as much as it is about tranquility. There is a zen to be found when fighting well, just as there is in the reflection offered in the moments of respite between battles.

Two players arrived in the same area I was as I fought an NPC. Instead of intervening, they stopped and watched, and applauded (via emote) when I won. Afterwards, we bowed to each other and parted ways.

Other players display a similar level of respect, bowing before PVP matches, giving a thumbs-up after particularly impressive bouts.

And, much like life, others will try and kick you when you're down.

The world is barren and bleak, and the only outlet that Prospects have is through fighting. After spending a dozen or so hours inside its world, I'm eager to continue to fight--and to learn--from the other strangers I encounter.

The game is not perfect, but it is a unique experience deserving of your attention.
