Controller charging issues.

Hey everyone, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I'm a new PS4 owner and having a some trouble with my controller charging, in the sense that it doesn't charge when plugged in. The controller itself works, when turned on I can control the PlayStation for a few seconds before it runs out of battery, and the controller turns the console on too. It's plugged in to the USB using the official wire but just not being charged. I've tried both USB sockets, and the wire is charging other devices fine from a socket, both my phone and headphones. Any ideas on what could be going on? Many thanks!
