PS4 controller laggy/unresponsive when extended storage is connected.

I bought an usb to sata and used a 500gb 2.5" hdd and it worked fine. However both controllers are laggy/unresponsive while it is plugged in. As soon as I removed the storage device the controllers started working fine. On version 4.73 if that helps. Has anyone else had this problem?
