So I have a PS4 Pro and a SONY X900E. I calibrated the TV with the settings from rtings.com for both custom and game mode. I had the TV set to game mode; went to the Netflix app on the PS4; and started Marco Polo (which I understand is an HDR title).
To confirm that I was watching the series in HDR, I went to the picture settings and looked at the brightness setting. My understanding is that if HDR is working, the brightness setting would automatically set itself to max. But the brightness setting was still at 4 which is what I set it to when I originally calibrated it.
So then I switched the picture mode to custom and saw that the brightness setting was at max (even though I had originally set it to 4). From this I concluded that HDR was working in custom mode but not game mode. Is this a correct assumption? If so, what is the point of game mode for HDR games if game mode apparently doesn't support HDR?
