I got the Sony platinum headset yesterday, and only because my friends kept complaining that they could hear every sound coming from my speakers when we'd play. So I got the headset, hooked it up, put in rainbow 6, and was the face of pure disappointment. I don't mind the low bass, it's fine for me because it sounds clear at least, but it sure as hell does not replace a proper speaker setup.
The sound just felt "generic", and not dynamic. So I put in uncharted 4 since it's supposed to use the Sony magic sound and it was the same.
What I did like about them is the mic basically turns off when you're not talking, so no ambient noise was going through even when loud cars drove by or when my dog was barking, or even air from the AC blowing by.
Here are my questions: Is there a headset similar to the stock one, or similar to the stock Xbox headset, that has a similar mic setup? I'd like to enjoy my sound without annoying my friends too much.
I shouldn't be expecting a good 7.1 recreation, comparable to an actual good 7.1 setup should I?
I'm leaning towards getting a cheap wired headset for when I have to use one, and the rest of the time turning up my sound and telling my friends to pound sand.
