I'm receiving a large amount of messages from unknown players.

I am getting a large amount of messages and friend requests by people who I don't even play the same games as me, how is this possible and how do I stop it? it's my girlfriend's ps4 that she barely plays and they seem to know that she is a girl even though there is nothing to give it away due to the settings
