Issue with PS4 usb ports and Sony's tech support system

I know this isn't a tech support forum so if no one can help with that, that's cool. But I'm not even sure how to get my system in for service based on the issue I have.

I recently started having an issue that I believe is centered around my PS4's usb ports. I'm using a Madcatz TE2+ arcade stick, and periodically, it will become unresponsive (all buttons including PS button) yet the light bar will remain on. The only fix seems to be unplugging it and putting it back in, followed by pressing the PS button again. These problems always occurred using the first usb slot, however, when a friend brought over his idententical controller he experienced the same problem in the second usb slot. This leads me to believe the problem lies with my PS4's usb ports (or I suppose it could be a TE2+ issue but we've both used the stick for over a year with no issues prior to this). I've tried cleaning all the ports and cables to no avail. I haven't been able to replicate the issue with a standard dual shock 4 but I believe that's because of the wireless connection. My PS4 is also a launch model (November 2013) if that helps.

So is there anything else I can try before sending my console in for service? This issue doesn't seem to be on the list of problems to select when making a service request so I'm not even sure what to select there.

The options are:

Picture and Sound, Disc, HDD System Freeze, HDR and 4K, Power, Network Connection,

My issue doesn't seem to be any of those.

Thanks for any help
