My PS4 died after three years. But did it?

My wife is pregnant and off from work now. I bought her Horizon Zero Dawn for her to enjoy until the baby comes. She loving it, but two days in I’m at work and she texted me that “the PS4 just stopped working. It just turned off.”

I was bummed first of all because it died and second because she just got into the new game. I head home after work and check it. Yep, dead. Together we opened it up and vacuumed it. Didn’t work. Nothing. The PS4 is a launch PS4 and I had been eyeing a PS4 pro for a bit but with a new addition on the way it wasn’t an immediate reality.

My wife is not tech savvy and was really bummed it broke. Annoyed and out of options I was like “Fuck it, let me take it into the bed room and check it with the power cable for the old ps3. It fired right up.

The power cable died. I’ve owned nearly every console since the SNES/genesis days. I’ve never had a simple power cable die. I’m still surprised. I also think about the technically ignorant. They would have just tossed out their console if they didn’t own any other Sony consoles or equipment. It’s such a simple power cable too. It’s not the like XB1. Strange.
