Non generic story-heavy games?

I picked up Shadow of War to sate my single player urge while I wait for more Destiny 2 content and Battlefront 2 to come out but I'd like to line up my next game before I finish it.

My interests so far bring me to Nier Automata, Nioh, Hellblade, perhaps Ruiner?

I'm looking for something that will immerse me and won't make me feel like a regular old hero killing the big bad guy. I really enjoy plot twists and heavy emotional elements, but not cliche and easily seen by foreshadowing. Nier and Hellblade, based on a little reading, seem to be my best bets for pure story and uniqueness, while Nioh would be for gameplay and my love for Samurai stuff, and Ruiner just seems like an fun, aesthetically pleasing game kinda like Furi, which I loved.

Any suggestions to look into would be great!
