Normal to have some noise with intensive games?

So I got around to playing the Last of Us on my new Slim and noticed some fan noise when in game. It isn't loud enough to heard through my headphones when I'm playing but definitely noticeable otherwise The loud noise goes away fairly quickly after exiting the game. Also, when playing 2K or Netflix the system is quiet, is this normal for the Slim?
