Will my download lose progress if my internet drops?

So forgive me for a bit of a noob question, but my internet is really shitty and likes to drop for a few seconds, then reconnect. If said internet drops, will my download completely lose its progress.? Anything I can do about it.? Mediacom is my ISP.
