Can't get my wired Dualshock 4 to work with Remote Play on Windows

Hello everyone, I recently installed Remote Play on my Windows 10 PC for the purpose of streaming games on laptop while away from the system, and as far as I can tell it works great. However I can't get very far, as my dualshock 4, when plugged in to my PC via the micro USB cable, is completely unresponsive. It only seems to be charging from the computer's USB port. I've tried plugging the controller in at different periods during the remote play process but nothing seems to work. Pressing the playstation button results in the controller connecting to the ps4 as a player 2 controller (indicated by the red light and "who's using this controller screen"), but choosing a user results in the share play to immediately disconnect. Any one have any suggestions?
