Is my PS4 dying? I put it into rest mode and it turns off during the night

I've started putting my PS4 into rest mode before going to bed, and then when turning the PS4 back on in the morning it goes through the 'checking the hard disk' safe mode type feature, as if i'd turned off the PS4 completely or removed the cable from the power. Is there a chance it's surging during the night or is this a potentially major issue? It's well out of warranty, i've had it for a few years now.
