Problem with PS4 storage capacity

Hi guys.. My friend recently bought a new PS4 slim 500 GB model.. and he never bothered to check in settings or anything , however he opened the storage screen in settings and it shows the total storage is 287.2 GB !!!!!! and he only has 66 GB free.. Is this a bug or his HDD corrupted or what? any solution to this? Thx in advance.
