Racing game suggestion please

I am yet to buy a racing game and was waiting for the new Gran Turismo but the whole online thing puts me off. I used to like the career mode and racing to get money to tune cars up but seems you can't really do this and are forced to race online which puts me off. That said what is a decent racing game to get? I like sims but also like arcade like games, used to really like Need for Speed, any of those games any good? I like rally as well so any rally games suggestions would be good. Which is the best need for speed game as might get one of them and maybe another game if someone can suggest any decent games? Shame the new Gran Turismo went down the route it did as they have taken away the best thing about it and was waiting ages for that to come out. Anyway suggestions please, thanks.
