Ever played a couch co-op game online using share play?

Edit: Ever played a couch co-op game online using share play where the guest could play using his PSN id?

My friend and I did this once with Salt and Sanctuary, but it's been a long time so I don't remember exactly how we did it. I wanna say it went something like this.

1) I booted up S&S and logged in as myself using my PSN id.

2) I turned on a second controller and logged it in under my friend's PSN id (who we'll call Greg).

3) Greg logged into his profile from his PS4, logging him out of my PS4.

4) I started share play and invited Greg where he took control of player 2.

5) The game recognized Greg as if he was player 2 again and logged him in under his PSN id, sitting right next to me.

This allowed us to play a couch co-op only game online and allowed Greg to pop trophies, even though he was technically a guest in share play.

I've never replicated it or tried with a different game. What is your experience with this work around? Has it been patched?
