Set custom avatar? (Not profile picture)

I just got my first PS4 and was wondering, if it is possible, to get a custom avatar.
I'd just take the ones that are from Sony but they all look very bad and outdated and I'm not going to spend money for freaking avatars.
I know you can set a profile picture, but that's not what I'm looking for.
