I originally tried to post this month's ago, but just found out that it never posted. (I'm relatively new to Reddit)
In 2006 my dad came home with a new Playstation 3 and relayed his signature "See if this works," and walked off. It worked, very well. I had always been more of an Xbox fan, but after getting the PS3 I realized that MAYBE they could both be good.
Fast-foward about 10 years and hundreds of dollars later to Christmas 2015. After months of telling my little brother he's "not going to get a PS4" and "Don't get your hopes up," my little brother opens, of course, a PS4 in the living room. I was honestly really jealous, but realized that my little brother deserved the Playstation more than I did. He had been through a lot recently and was, for the time being, was not able to see his mom, (We have different moms) and if I wanted one I was old enough to get the money together myself.
Fast-foward again to December 2016. My little brother has spent hundreds (over a thousand I think) of dollars on the Playstation store using my dad's debit card. I get a message from my brother saying his account got banned. When he tries to log in it says he is banned and gives no time-frame for the duration of his ban, or a reason for the ban. My brother checked the Playstation forums and discovered that if no reason is given immediately for his ban, he will be Emailed the reason within 24 hours of the ban going into affect. So he waits a day, then two, then three, and no Email. My brother decides to call customer support. The first time, they give him no information other than that his account is banned and cannot be restored. The second time, they say the same thing. The third time, they say the same thing again and block his phone number.
After doing some research I found that my little brother isn't the first person this has happened to, multiple people have been banned by SONY with no explanation and with all of their games being taken away, but I think my brother has managed to make it further than most other this has happened to.
Our dad is a blue collar worker, switching from employer to employer as time goes on. Around December of 2016, he got a new job, and with it a new debit card.
A few months agomy brother tried calling Playststion support again through a different phone. He said he got someone much more cooperative this time. They actually gave him some information. Apparently my little brother made a purchase on the old card, and the next day switched to the new card and made a purchase. SONY detected this (I'm assuming through a bot, because as Wikipedia and GTA Online have shown us, they work fantastically) and registered it as Fraud and banned his account. An honest mistake made by the company. When they admitted their mistake my brother figured they would probably restore his account, or at least his purchases. Nope. They offered to sell him the stuff he had on his other account. Yep, SONY is trying to sell my little brother the things he already owns. They were "polite" enough to offer him a "discount" (I'm assuming half off on all of the purchases he's made) reducing the price to $630. It's kind of insulting that after even admitting that it was their fault, they still don't give him his things back for free. Even if they charged him $5 to get his stuff back, it would still be an incredible insult to us as consumers.
I made this post because I want to know if anybody has any clue what to do, or if maybe people could spread this story so this problem gets the attention that it deserves. I love the games and consoles SONY puts out, and I'm not even upset about the ban, as it was a legitimate mistske. I am upset, however, at their decision to not restore my brothers purchases after they admit theto they should not have been taken away in the first place. I don't want to take any form of legal action, aso it would be much more expensive and there's no way we could ever dream of beating SONY anyway. He has been a loyal SONY customer for over 10 years.
I actually typed this several months ago and just discovered it never posted My little brother has basically given up on solving this problem and is saving his money to purchase his games again. I believe he shouldn't let the company bully him
I have never felt more insulted by a company.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.
Edit: No, there is no proof. I made this thread to see if there were any people who could give us ideas on what to do to find proof. My brother is only 15, I'm 19, but stupid, and my dad hasn't been too cooperative so we want to figure out what exactly we need to find before we approach him asking to search through the records and bank information for his cards.
