Barely able to hear through mic anymore?

Happened twice now, the original headset had it for a year and couldn't hear, but I can hear sounds very quietly instead of loud like I used to be able to, bought a new one and it's happening again, no matter what I use it on ps4, pc, is there a fix to this or do I have to buy yet again a new mic?
