Headset difficulty

This may not be the correct place to post this, I bought an afterglow AG 9+ headset the audio is fine but I can't get the mic to work. I went into settings then devices and my ps4 recognizes it and says it's hooked up, but I still can't get the mic to work with me speaking. I'm assuming I just missed something stupid but any help is appreciated
