I have completed only less than 2 hours of the game, but it's my favourite gaming experience since Portal 2.
The things I love the most in games are the story, atmosphere, music, and art style. All of them are perfect so far. Absolutely perfect. The story is intriguing, the voice acting (I am playing in Japanese with English subtitles) is marvelous, the characters incredibly human despite being androids. The atmosphere so far is that of longing mixed with quirkiness and a wish to discover the game's world. Details such as the girl with the weird mask in the resistance camp add so much to the atmosphere. The music - oh, the music! This could have been composed by Joe Hisaishi, it's that beautiful. The anime style art is very pretty and the changing perspectives of the game are truly cool. I know that the long story awaiting me is also very good, and I am looking forward to see if this can become my favourite game of all time.
Some of the art I enjoy even though I may struggle to sit through it - be it books, movies, TV shows or whatever. They may even make it to my top5 or something - but I appreciate them only after having them finished. Then there are some rare pieces of art which I just swallow whole, I cannot go away from them and I am thinking about them all the time. It happens rarely, not even every year. "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut, Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds", TV show "The Wire" and Life Is Strange are some of the pieces of art that made me feel that way in the past 5 years. NieR: Automata is doing it again.
