No Man's Sky 1.3 - Please explain to me how the new Multiplayer addition works!

I would LOOOOOOVE to get back into this game only if they fix multiplayer. Now I just read that the game got patched with some sort of multiplayer mode.

Can someone please explain to me what this is about?
