PS4 won't start with controller. And controller keeps disconnecting

I have a PS4 since day one. It has been doing well. But for the last few months, it has been acting up - possibly due to one of the updates. I don't game that often, but every few weeks or once in a month, when I get back to it - I am unable to start it through the controller. Sometimes, the front button wouldn't work either. I have to pull the cord from behind, and then plug it back in, and start it using the front power button. The controllers work fine. And are perfectly charged. They also seem to be disconnected from the console. I do not sync them with any other device. It just feels like my PS4 is on its way out. Any fixes to resolve this issue?
