Question about No Man's Sky

Quick question about No Man's Sky. I started the game for the first time recently, and I'm so stuck I can't even have fun. Does the game start out the same for everyone? Like, I have to find a bunch of minerals and junk to repair my little ship - did you do that too?

I can't seem to find enough of anything, it gets so cold I die, and then ... idk does this game just suck?
