External storage migration

Basically Id just like to know if the application data from one ps4 that is stored on to an external drive can be used in a new PS4 , or do I have to format that drive again to use it for the new PS4 .

Thanks in advance ! (My 4 year old PS4's HDMI port just stopped working so I need to get replacement because in my country there isnt an option to repair a PlayStation )

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
