Why does controller led light up when connected to PS4 with one cable but not with the other?

New to PS4 so bear with me.

So I got 2 different cables with my ps4 pro for the controllers, one regular black one, and one longer green one. I noticed when I connect the black one , the led light on the controller lights up for a sec to show it's connected I guess, but when use the green one it doesn't. Afaik both charge the controller normally, so what's the difference?
