Coming from Xbox One and really struggling to find a suitable headset.

Hello, I've just decided to purchase myself a PS4 as in the UK we've had some great deals lately and really want to play some of the PS4 exclusives. So far I am loving the system and only played The Last of Us so far and what a game!

Anyway, I am really struggling to find a decent headset which will suit my needs. I have looked on the wiki, searched threads and researched online for hours and hours - no exaggeration I've looked at HyperX, Astro, Logitech, Sennheiser, SteelSeries etc.

One thing I like about the Xbox system is that you can plug a headset into the stereo adaptor and then control volume levels, mute and chat mix right where your hands are - on the controller. I used the Xbox One Wireless Stereo Headset which is only £30 in the UK and does the job perfectly.

I decided to get the Sony Stereo Wireless headset, I believe it's called the Sony Gold headset in other countries and the sound quality is great and I love it has controls on the left ear cup but it has one major flaw - it let's far too much ambient noise in. I game in the main living room in the house but even when the main television has it's volume on a normal level, or my wife is talking on the phone I can hear everything what is being said whilst playing my game. I have plugged the Xbox headset in to the 3.5mm port and hardly any ambient sound comes through but there is no manual controls of course.

So if anyone could recommend me a headset based on your experience with the following requirements I would really appreciate it.

  1. Ideally not Turtle Beach - I just don't trust their build quality after a couple of Xbox sets have broke and the noise that comes through from the movement of the headband or ear cups creaking in some models. If the more premium models have improved on this then I'll be willing to look at them again.
  2. As mentioned above and probably most important, minimal external ambient noise is leaked through.
  3. Has controls available to control game volume. Inline or on the headset itself. Ideally chat/game mix too but not massively important as I can change that in the settings and leave it.
  4. Costs under £150 (Hence why Astro's have been excluded)
  5. Mic can easily be muted
  6. Has good bass levels
  7. Can be wired or wireless
  8. Can be used on both PS4 and Xbox but not important if it can't.

The only headset I've come across which may match all requirements is the Sennheiser GSP 300 but would still like some feedback from the reddit community.

Thanks for anyone who helps, I really do appreciate it.
