Error with External Hard Drive

I was about to start a game of Fortnite BR and my PS4 froze and completely shut itself off. After a couple attempts to turn back on, it won’t recognize my external hard drive. It’s telling me to format it so I go into do that and it won’t show up in my connected devices. I decide to try and format it on my computer instead but now my computer won’t recognize it.
