I'm looking to connect my external hard drive to my PS4 to play saved videos. Is this possible?

I just purchased a PS4. I have a 1 TB Toshiba external hard drive that I use to save our videos. We have one year old twins and my wife LOVES taking video of them being adorable, so you can imagine there are a lot. They are mp4 files. I attempted to connect it and use the format wizard but it states it would delete all of the data on the drive, and I can't lose these videos. Is it possible for me to watch these on my system?
