Does plugging headphones into the DS4 diminish audio quality vs plugging into USB?

I'm trying to figure out what to do about a headset with my PS4. Not sure if I should use headphones w/ mic, headset with 3.5mm, or headset with USB hookup.

Does hooking headphones straight into the DS4 diminish the audio quality? If so, could I just hook them into the headphone jack on my monitor and plug my modmic 5 into the controller? Or should I be looking into getting a headset that plugs in via USB?

I guess other options would be to find a USB adapter that accepts both the headphone and mic connectors, and allows me to plug them into the PS4 via USB. Or buy a headphone amp.

Any help would be appreciated!
