The Catch-22 of allowing Sub accounts the ability to redeem DLCs

A sad and funny tale. On my PS4, under my PS Plus account, I bought a copy of The Crew. Great fun, we love it (and it went on sale two weeks after I bought it, oh well).

My kids all have sub accounts on my PS4 and play under there. Of course, it's my game on my PS4, and so they share it because I'm primary.

And then I found myself with a The Crew DLC code to redeem. I excitedly text it to my teenager to try out. He hits 'Redeem Code' from the game main menu; it works! I get home and see ... he did it under his sub account. A sub account, which cannot buy games or spend money in the store, can actually redeem DLCs for games they don't own. And, the primary game owner, on that same primary PS4, can't access the DLC.

Sony support says to have the Sub account make the PS4 their primary to share DLCs ownership. But, once the Sub becomes primary they lose the actual game (because it's owned by me). So it opens up to the demo menu with a big "buy this game now".

There's no happy ending, just a warning. Sub accounts should not be able to redeem DLCs, or any other store product, but they can.

Unless there's some other method beyond the standard Activate Primary swap, as Support states they have no ability to move the DLC from the sub to the master account.
